The Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at DeKalb Technical College gets a passing grade from the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses. The inspection by the State takes place every five years and puts various aspects of the diploma program under the microscope. “DeKalb Tech offers a quality program based on State standards.” says Dr. Tanya Gorman, Vice-President of Academic Affairs for DeKalb Tech. Elaine Williams, Department Chair: Health and Professional Services, echoed the enthusiasm saying, “We have reached our pass rate goal every year for the last 5 years. All this equates to the continuation of our excellent PN program.”
Marcia Stevens, a Registered Nurse from the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses, visited the Covington campus in mid-May. Her inspection scrutinized the curriculum, the number of students in the program, the retention rate, and the qualifications of the faculty among many other things. “We’re pleased with what they found.” added Dr. Gorman. She goes on to say, “We have a strong faculty. That is evident by the fact that our students do well.”
DeKalb Tech’s nursing program develops, directs and prepares students to enter the practical nursing profession. The comprehensive on-site inspection noted that nursing courses include web-based, hybrid and online courses. Dr. Robin Hoffman, President of DeKalb Tech, expresses her pride in the LPN program by saying, “This State Board approval is another example of the excellence in education we offer at DeKalb Technical College.”
The full approval of the inspector was submitted, reviewed and accepted by the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses on June 5, 2009.
