Snapping Shoals EMC gives scholarship to DeKalb Tech Nursing Student

Catrina Jones says she was jumping up and down at her computer when she read the e-mail informing her that she is the winner of a $400.00 scholarship from Snapping Shoals EMC.   Jones is a practical nursing student with a 3.55 GPA.

Snapping Shoals EMC offers the $400.00 scholarship every year based on need.  The winner of the scholarship must meet several requirements to be awarded the prize, including being serviced in their home by Snapping Shoals EMC.  They must be a full time student and have finished at least 2 quarters of study.  The scholarship money is given to the DeKalb Tech Foundation and then awarded to the winning student.

Hoffman, JonesJones is in her last quarter of study for her Practical Nursing Degree.  Prior to enrolling at DeKalb Technical College, the Lithonia resident attended Perimeter College, Clayton State College and the State University of West Georgia.  Jones says she plans on using the scholarship money to buy extra books she needs to continue her nursing curriculum.  But her plans do not stop there.  “After I receive my diploma in Practical Nursing, I will work as an LPN while finishing my last 13 classes at Clayton State University to receive my Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Human Services,” says Jones.  After that she plans on getting her BSN in Nursing and possibly pursuing her Masters in Nursing or Accounting.

In presenting the scholarship to Jones, DeKalb Technical College President, Dr. Robin Hoffman congratulated her saying, “We are proud of you, and honored to have you as a part of the DeKalb Tech family.  We wish you continued success as you follow your nursing dreams.”  Jones is also the recipient of two other scholarships offered by DeKalb Tech. The merit-based DTC “Excellence Scholarship” and the need-based DTC “Success Scholarship” are each $200.00 book store credit scholarships.
