Pratt Industries Announces Quick Start Training Initiative

Pratt Industries is proud to announce a recent expansion to its facility located in Conyers, GA.  The company is investing $50M in the project and will create approximately 30 new jobs for Georgians in the DeKalb area.

Pratt Industries is America’s 6th largest paper and packaging company, with 3500 green-collar employees dedicated to the environment by “Harvesting the Urban Forest.” The Conyers-based company, which is privately-owned, operates three high-tech 100% recycled paper mills in the USA as well as a series of corrugated sheet and box plants throughout the eastern United States and Mexico. Pratt Industries’ manufacturing operations recycle more than 1 million tons of paper a year.Pratt Industries & Quick Start

Pratt Industries’ Conyers campus consists of a 100% recycled paper mill as well as a corrugated sheet and box plant and a clean energy facility. The clean energy facility is designed both to provide steam and power needed for the Conyers campus, and to further reduce Pratt Industries’ carbon footprint by diverting and converting materials and process wastes that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

To aid in the transition of the new expansion, Pratt Industries has partnered with Georgia Quick Start to develop a comprehensive program to help train Pratt Industries’ new employees. Quick Start will be designing and developing training material, as well as providing instructors, for the classes.

Quick Start is Georgia’s internationally acclaimed economic development program that provides customized workforce training at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. Since 1967, Quick Start has trained more than 600,000 employees through 5,100 projects with a broad range of industries.

The training program involves three distinct partners: Pratt Industries, DeKalb Technical College and Quick Start. Each partner will be responsible for the successful completion of this program. The partnership will not end when the Quick Start training is completed. DeKalb Technical College will be available to assist Pratt Industries with ongoing training programs.

“We are pleased to be working again with Pratt Industries. DeKalb Technical College and Pratt Industries have partnered together for industry training for many years. This new project with Quick Start will provide cutting edge training services that will energize the potential of individuals, help improve their lives, and contribute to the economic health of our community. Rockdale County is extremely important to us.” said Dr. Robin Hoffman, President of DeKalb Technical College.
