Lakeside High senior wins first place manufacturing art design

From submissions throughout the state, DeKalb Public School student Lily Miller, a senior in the art honors program at Lakeside High School, received the $500 first place prize for her depiction of manufacturing in Georgia at the annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW) luncheon on Thursday, April 16, 2009.

Lily MillerLily, daughter of Ron and Cate Miller, plans to attend Kennesaw State College and major in nursing with a minor in art upon graduation.  “I have always loved to draw,” says Lily.   MAW is an annual event that recognizes the contribution of manufacturing to Georgia’s economy. An important part of this event is the Student Design Competition, in which students from across Georgia submit artwork depicting the importance of manufacturing to their and communities. From these, three winners in each of three categories are chosen.  Categories include: elementary students – placemat designs; middle school students – poster designs; and high school students – T-shirt designs.

Manufacturers in the small, medium, and large categories are recognized at the luncheon for their contribution to the state’s economy and their communities.  Jim Lientz, Chief Operating Officer for the State of Georgia, served as keynote speaker.
