DeKalb Technical College’s first cosmetologist to undertake the instructor training since 1986 recently passed the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology Instructor Exam. Ms. Kenya Trimuel also took her initial cosmetology training at DeKalb Tech in 1996.
“We are pleased to bring this program back to our College and pleased with Kenya’s success, “says Clarkston campus lead instructor Larry Grant. “The State Board allows only one student per licensed instructor so the College can graduate only two student’s per year.”
The instructor exam consists of written and practical parts which includes two lesson plans, one theory and the other a demonstration. The theory must be presented in 20 minutes with the demonstration to follow in 30 minutes. Ms. Trimuel scored 88 on the written and a 93 on the theory section “which is excellent,” says Dr. Robin Hoffman, President of DeKalb Technical College.
