DeKalb Tech & the Dept. of Labor team up to take on work place stress

Summertime temperatures are not the only things reaching a fever-pitch. Unemployment is up, gas prices are up and so is stress. That is where DeKalb Technical College and the Georgia Department of Labor are coming to the rescue. A recent workshop brought in several experts in the field of law, coping with job stress and how to defuse tense situation in the work place. The seminar is called “Managing Your Workforce Through Challenging Times”. In these challenging times one of the speakers offered a triple “A” approach. Oz Nesbitt, a former Sheriff Deputy and Rockdale County Commissioner says Attitude, Approach and Appearance are part of the key to success. He used his dynamic personality to help educate and entertain about two dozen people who attended the morning session. Many workshop participants were law enforcement officers as well as plant managers and Human Resource managers.

DOL seminarWinston Denmark, a chief litigator for Fincher, Denmark, & Williams law firm offered advice on various legal problems facing employers. Dr. Jerry Brown of Cameron & Associates spoke of the benefits of Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). Betty Tilley, an Organizational and Family Systems Therapist, serves as a counselor for DeKalb Technical College. She spoke about where to find help and how to reduce or better manage the stress everyone encounters at home and at work.

In addition to the educational speakers, the Georgia Department of Labor offered information on “Building A World-Class Workforce” and “Georgia’s Hot Careers to 2016” among other brochures. The three hour workshop is a collaborative effort between DeKalb Technical College and the Georgia Department of Labor, and sponsored by DeKalb/Rockdale Employer committee.
