DeKalb Tech Instructor Joins Heart Association National Faculty

The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association announce the appointment of Becky Hill to its National Faculty.  Hill is the newly-appointed Director of the Community Training Center for the American Heart Association and has been a part of DeKalb Technical College’s EMS teaching faculty since 1986.  She started as an adjunct instructor then, and became full time in 1995.Becky Hill

In a letter to Becky Hill notifying her of the appointment, the health organizations say, “You will be taking an active role in your regional ECC (Emergency Cardiovascular Care) committee by helping with any disputes, mentoring regional faculty, helping assign regional faculty to training centers as mentors, and helping disseminate the new science in late 2010, 2011.”  This appointment takes Becky Hill to a national level in an organization in which she has volunteered.  “I have been a volunteer for American Heart for 33 years.  I have taught CPR and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)  in all corners of the state of Georgia.  I enjoyed meeting all the people who needed the training and were so happy to have us come to them to provide it,” says Hill.

Hill’s two year appointment comes as a prelude to a major health policy review expected next year. Every 5 years leaders in the field of cardiovascular resuscitation gather for a conference to examine the latest research, studies and findings. A consensus is reached and a “how-to” edict is issued from this meeting.  “Then we pass that along to the instructors who do all the good work at the grass roots level.” Hill says.  As a National Faculty Member, Hill will be an integral part of that process.  She will serve as the senior technical expert within the state of Georgia for the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. Her duties also include serving as a resource to the regional faculty and will be responsible for ensuring updates are conducted for the regional faculty within the State.  “This appointment is very special to me, it reminds me of all the years of volunteer hours that I have put in, and all the people that I have met and touched while teaching them a skill that can save a life,” Hill says.
