Eligibility
Important Information About Your Awards
Federal Pell Grant & Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Eligibility for these grants is based on high financial need. Award amounts for these grants vary.
- The Federal Pell Grant and SEOG are awarded to students enrolled in Diploma and Degree programs only. Students enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible for the Pell Grant or SEOG.
- Students who have earned a Bachelor’s degree either in the U.S. or outside of the U.S. are not eligible for the Pell grant.
Federal College Work Study
- Federal College Work Study is awarded to eligible students enrolled in Diploma and Degree programs only. Students enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible to receive any federal funds.
- Students are paid hourly wages, which vary by position, and students may work up to 20 hours per week during the quarter.
- Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours each quarter to receive Federal College Work Study.
HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship
- The HOPE Grant is awarded to eligible Georgia residents enrolled in Certificate or Diploma programs only.
- The HOPE Scholarship is awarded to eligible Georgia residents in Degree programs with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. You must apply for the HOPE Scholarship by completing the ‘Second Chance Hope Application’ available in the Financial Aid Office. Transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities must be on file in the Admissions Office.
- Georgia residency must be established one year prior to the quarter in which HOPE will be awarded.
- HOPE does not pay for all fees. Only the activity fee, the registration fee and the accident insurance fee are paid by HOPE. All other fees are the responsibility of the student. Students may authorize the fees to be deducted from the HOPE Book allowance, or any PELL grant award they receive. This authorization must be done through BANNER Web at the time of registration or before the fee payment due date. However, the HOPE Book allowance still may not cover all fees due. Fees not paid by the posted due dates each quarter will result in the removal of the student from all classes for the quarter and all records purged for that quarter. Students who are purged can register for the next quarter if eligible. Please see the DTC website and the ‘Right Start’ Publication each quarter for pay dates and deadlines.
- HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship recipients receive a HOPE Book allowance of $50 if enrolled in 5 hours or less and $100 if enrolled in 6 hours or more. Students must be prepared to pay for books using personal resources as these amounts can be used to authorize fees not paid by HOPE and because these amounts are not enough to cover the cost of books.
- The HOPE grant is paid for up to 95 quarter hours of study. There is a combined HOPE grant and HOPE Scholarship lifetime award limit of 190 quarter hours. Once these maximums are reached you are no longer eligible. Any previously attended colleges or universities where HOPE grant or scholarship was paid count in these totals.
- The HOPE Scholarship is not available to students who have already earned a Bachelor’s degree, have attempted 190 or more quarter hours or have received payment from any combination of HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant and
Accel Program funds totaling 190 quarter hours.
What happens if I drop or withdraw from a class?
- You should check with the Student Financial Services Office before you drop or withdraw from a class to find out how your financial aid may be affected. Your financial aid award may be adjusted based on the date that you withdraw from the course.
- Withdrawal from all classes may require the student to re-pay a portion of federal funds (PELL and SEOG) received.
