Important Information About Your Awards

Federal Pell Grant & Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

• Eligibility for these grants is based on high financial need.  Award amounts for these grants vary.
• The Federal Pell Grant and SEOG are awarded to students enrolled in Diploma and Degree programs only.  Students enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible to receive any federal funds.
• If you are enrolled in a Diploma program, your registered hours will be converted to eligible FEDERAL Credit Hours based on federal regulations.  Check with the Office of Student Financial Services for the conversion rate for the courses.

Federal College Work Study

• Federal College Work Study is awarded to eligible students enrolled in Diploma and Degree programs only.  Students enrolled in certificate programs are not eligible to receive any federal funds.
• Students are paid hourly wages, which vary by position, and students may work up to 20 hours per week during the quarter. 
• Students must be enrolled in at least 6 federal credit hours each quarter to receive Federal College Work Study.

HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship

• The HOPE Grant is awarded to eligible Georgia residents enrolled in Certificate or Diploma programs only.
• The HOPE Scholarship is awarded to eligible Georgia residents in Degree programs with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. 
• Georgia residency must be established one year prior to the quarter in which HOPE will be awarded.
• The HOPE Scholarship and HOPE Grant will pay for the total cost of your tuition, activity fee, and registration fee. 
• HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship recipients are eligible to receive a HOPE Book allowance of $100 if you are enrolled 6 or more hours or $50 if you are enrolled 5 hours or less. (This will not cover the total cost of your books; therefore, students should be prepared to pay the additional cost from personal resources). 
• The HOPE Book Allowance Form must be signed by your instructor(s) and submitted to Student Financial Services Office beginning the first day of class of each quarter.  You will be issued a Bookstore Credit that is good for two weeks after which the Finance Office will mail you a Book Check.
• HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship does not cover insurance, malpractice, late and/or technology fees that you are required to pay without your authorization prior to registration.

What happens if I drop or withdraw from a class?

• You should check with the Student Financial Services Office before you drop or withdraw from a class to find out how your financial aid may be affected.  Your financial aid award may be adjusted based on the date that you withdraw from the course. 

Things you need to know:

• You must be accepted into a program and your admissions file must be complete to be eligible for financial aid.
• In order to receive Financial Aid:
  1. You must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  2. You must be making satisfactory academic progress.
  3. You cannot have a defaulted loan or owe a repayment on any previous financial aid award.
  4. All male students (ages 18-25) must register with the Selective Service.
• For further information regarding the satisfactory academic progress standards, and your rights and responsibilities check the financial aid web site at www.dekalbtech.edu 
• You will receive a refund check, if your PELL or SEOG exceeds the amount of your total charges (tuition, fees, etc), after the 6th week of class.
