Willie Harvey Jr.

Diploma, DeKalb Technical College
I have over 27 years of experience with 16 of those years at Georgia Tech in their Engineering Experiment Station. I started teaching at DeKalb Technical College full time in 2006, after having taught for 17 years as an adjunct Instructor. I am a certified MIG welder in 3G aluminum and low carbon alloy steel, certified in 6G TIG aluminum pipe and stainless steel. Welding is a very rewarding, yet demanding field. Contrary to popular belief, welding can be considered a white collar job in its own field and class. It touches on chemistry, math and metallurgy. It can be done in space, under water and on dry land. Yet, not everyone can perform welding tasks. Why I like teaching? Tt's simple; I have a passion for it. We all have to make a living, but my reward is when I see and know that a student or hobbyist becomes successful, confident and knowledgeable about what they're doing. I will have my BS Degree soon.

Robbie Zappa

CWI/CWE; EMBA, Colorado Technical University
I have been in the welding field for over 35 years. I have been teaching welding for DeKalb Tech since 1996. I have a strong background in precision metal fabrication of many types of materials. The majority of my skills come from working in various machine shops, one minute I would be GMAW welding on a frame, the next I would be doing precision GTAW welding on exotic metals like titanium. From all of my past experiences, I love teaching the best. There is not much else that can match the satisfaction when I see the spark in the eye of a student that just figured out how welding works.
