Cosmetology

Overview

The cosmetology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students in the field of cosmetology.  Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement.  The program is offered at our Clarkston Campus with two entries a year, Winter quarter and Summer quarter for the full time day program. Our Covington Campus offers Cosmetology with two entries a year, Spring Quarter and Fall Quarter day program only.

The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, hair treatments and manipulations, skin and nail care, reception, sales and management. The curriculum meets the licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology.

Entrance Requirements

The cosmetology instructors are available to advise those students whose scores meet the requirements to enter the program. Students should contact one of the cosmetology instructors immediately upon deciding to enter the program for advisement. The class size is limited so you must complete your files in admission and complete pre-requisites before entering the program.

Students must be a high school graduate, or have a GED and must be a minimum of 17 years of age to make application to the cosmetology program. Students make advisement appointments by calling or sending an e-mail to the cosmetology instructor/advisor. Students must bring with them a copy of their most recent transcript and ASSET/SAT/CAP scores for advisement.

Employment Opportunities

Program graduates receive a cosmetology diploma and are employable as a cosmetology salesperson, cosmetologist, salon manager, or a salon owner after successfully passing State of Georgia Board Cosmetology Exams.

Estimated Salary

Beginning basic salary is estimated between $12,000 to 15,000 a year depending on the person.
